Maxwell New vs. Old

Maxwell Old School

Maxwell Old Schoolvs.Maxwell New School

Maxwell makes incredible music and is an incredibly sexy man. So when he finally announced his comeback, I don’t think anyone doubted his success. He has been very missed. But I truly can’t figure out which Maxwell I prefer. Looks-wise I am partial to the old school, neo-soul brotha who just rolled out of bed looking that fantastic.
I got his latest album last week on the way to visit my sister in upstate NY. It was a short flight, but I listened to it 3 times in a row. I love it. Now that I am a mature woman of 25, I believe I truly understand what he is talking about now. But, nothing will ever take away the pure feeling of listening to his songs slowly creep into the “love” scene in Love and Basketball. Being the ripe age of 17 when that movie came out, it was all still a fantasy to me. Love was this fabulous thing that Maxwell’s music was simply put, a necessary piece of the puzzle. The memories I have with Maxwell as the soundtrack are extensive.
Its a tie! I couldn’t possibly choose. I am just happy he is back.
Plus, he has totally taken advantage of the giant that is Twitter. He is doing an amazing job of marketing himself to a new generation and reconnecting with the old. @_MAXWELL_ Glad you are back.

The summer, my favorite thing is a beautiful summer sunset. There is nothing more peaceful. Watching that sunset while sitting on the beach is just the cherry on top.

Cake Girls Chicago

Cake Girls Chicago

I have been watching this show on WE network, Amazing Wedding Cakes. These amazing sisters from Chicago own a cake shop called Cake Girls. Being that they make beautiful cakes and from Chicago (my fav city) I am totally in love with them. I don’t have this obsession with getting married like some girls, but I love cake and pretty things.

Josephine Baker

Josephine Baker

Since coming back from Paris last year, I have been completely obsessed with Josephine Baker. I really see her as a strong woman who really owned her sexuality. She was also a great performer. Plus she was a part of the group of Black Americans who no longer wanted to put up with the racism and double standards of the U.S. in the 20s and 30s and moved to Paris. It is rumored that Paris was a color-blind city. As I have looked into this, there are a lot of mixed messages on if this is true, but nonetheless, I loved it. Every day I think about when I can go back.

My Favorite Person

cover

Lenny Kravitz is definitely my favorite person in the world. I love everything about him. Anyone that knows me, knows my love for Lenny is a LARGE part of my world. Lenny played photographer for Russian Vogue. He photographed some of his closest friends and family, including his daughter Zoe, Jay-Z and Beyonce, Alicia Keys, and Lionel Richie.

Enjoy!

Nike Plus Much Much More

nike

I recently purchased a new pair of running shoes. For the record, I am NOT a runner. But I am carrying several lbs that needs to find a new home. So, I decided to become a runner. Every new pair of Nike’s are compatible with Nike+ for your iPod. This technology came out years ago, but I complete ignored it. So, I checked out the website and since I am a sucker for charts and graphs I decided to purchase the $29 Nike+ sensor.

For the last week and a half, I have been busting my non-running ass in the gym. I can do the elliptical all day long, but the sensor doesn’t work on those machines, so I have to use the treadmill or run outside. The website is fabulous. There are Challenges you can join with other people all around the world. I joined my first challenge, which was titled for BEGINNERS. So, why does some jerk guy decide to join this group and run 13 miles in the FIRST DAY. Does this guy feel so badly about himself, that he has to pretend to be a beginner so he can win when he clearly isn’t. Well, anyways, I played fair and got 3rd place. Truly, the first two guys ran their distances in 2 runs or less, losers or just fast learners.

I am really proud of myself though, I stuck to it. Now it is time to join another Challenge.

Keeping up the momentum.

The Simple Things in Life

gmail

I have had the same email address with Yahoo! since 8th grade. I have never been someone who opens new email accounts every year. But two years ago, I got a Gmail account. It changed my life. With all of the technology in the world, my email account is one of the top 3 most important. Many choose to be addicted to Facebook, I choose my email.

Gmail allows me to stay in contact with my closest friends much better than Facebook. As many people face at work, we are not allowed to IM. My last company did not have the most sophisticated IT department, but they were very serious about not downloading any instant messaging programs. Gmail allowed me to chat within the same window without downloading any special programs. Two years and never got caught. I guess when you are chatting with other co-workers you can assume you won’t be the only one getting in trouble.

The folks at Google are constantly finding ways to improve Gmail. I hope I am not the only crazy person who checks the Gmail Blog religiously.

It is the one thing that you take for granted until you don’t have it. One of my small obsessions, I guess.

March Madness

ncaa

I see why they call it “Madness”. It truly takes over your entire life. Once you fill out the bracket, you are committed. I do not follow each team’s season, or ANY team’s season for that matter. But once I pick my team, I upgrade my normal competitiveness factor by 100.

I decided to stick next to my boyfriend and pick Louisville as the Champion. I don’t usually choose a team just because he does, but it is nice to have someone to cheer with. Last night, we “watched” (or followed I should say) the entire 2nd half of the Texas/Duke game from my cell phone. We were refreshing my phone browser every 15 seconds, dying for Texas to pull it through. We are both from Texas, but he is a TRUE Texas boy (Houston).

I grew up in Austin, but was never that attached to Texas, which for most is unheard of. Texans are very proud. I think the disconnect may be because my parents nor aunts and uncles were from Texas. I also feel like because we grew up in the suburbs of Austin, we were never around the cool parts. People are IN LOVE with Austin. When you say you are from Austin you win big points with folks, but I just never had that same connection with the place. Also, it is a much different city when you are 16 compared to 25. If I went back to Austin today for a week vacation and did all the cool Austin stuff, I think I would fully understand the obsession.

Even with the disconnect to my hometown, I still wanted Texas to win their game and am sad they didn’t.

Go Louisville!

Lenny Kravitz, my love...

Lenny Kravitz, my love...

Today is essentially my birthday. Well, it is February 29, Leap Year, so if this was a leap year it would be today, the day after February 28. So, happy birthday to me from my favorite person…LennyK

I will never forget that day, during my sophomore year of high school, when I got to meet you. We went backstage before the concert and as soon as we walked in the room you put your arm around my shoulders. As we walked to the wall where we would take the picture, I said to you, “I like your glasses!” WHAT?!? WHY?!? Why couldn’t I think of something better to say!!!!!!!!! I will forever cringe at those words.

Oh memories!
